Tirzepatide is a "dual agonist," meaning it mimics two naturally occurring "incretin" hormones in the body:
  • GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1): Stimulates insulin release after eating, lowers sugar production in the liver, and slows stomach emptying to help you feel full.
  • GIP (Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide): Also stimulates insulin and is thought to enhance the breakdown of fat and further improve metabolic control.

Dosing options are by vial size with every person starting at 2.5 mg once a week or lower.  (15mg vial is about a one month supply for starting dose).

15 mg - $375

30 mg - $525

45 mg - $600

60 mg - $775

Administration: It is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection (typically in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm).

Effectiveness: In clinical trials, participants without diabetes lost an average of 15% to 22.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks.

Common Side Effects: Most side effects are gastrointestinal, including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation.

Serious Warnings: It carries a boxed warning for a potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. People with a personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) should not use it.
